In the midst of a stellar run at the global box office, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment are officilaly moving forward with a Scream sequel, which will be the sixth overall installment in the blockbuster horror franchise.
To date, Scream (2022) has grossed over $107.4 million worldwide on an estimated $24 million production budget, making the sequel announcement a no-brainer.
Production is tentatively scheduled to begin this summer, with Radio Silence duo Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not) returning to helm the next film, with James Vanderbilt (Zodiac; The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not; Castle Rock) once again penning the script.
Franchise creator Kevin Williamson will also return as an executive producer.
In a statement, Spyglass and Paramount said, “We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film. We can’t wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence, writers Jamie & Guy and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family,” while Radio Silence added, “Working with such a wonderful and talented family of creators — and in the lineage Wes and Kevin so expertly built — has been the thrill of a lifetime, and we’re so excited to bring the next chapter in the Scream saga to life.”
